Aging Overview

External factors

External factors: Ethanol
Aging type: Prevent
Aging characteristic:
Category: Chemical compounds
Phenotype: Atherosclerosis
Experimental category: L
Tissue type: --
Cell name: Endothelial cell
PMID: 30885430
Experiment: SA-β-gal activity assay
Description: Ethanol could decrease SA-β-gal positive cells in the plaque surface. Furthermore, to explore the effects of ethanol on endothelial cells, the ratio of Ac-p53/p16-to CD31-stained areas was assessed. The area ratios of Ac-p53/CD31 and p16/CD31 were significantly attenuated by ethanol, suggesting the inhibitory effects of ethanol on endothelial senescence.

Regulatory relationship

Target gene: ALDH2
R-EF-Target gene: Activation
Official symbol(s): ALDH2
Target gene experiment: Western blot
Target gene description: In addition, the 0.3 g/kg dose of ethanol increased the protein expression and activity of ALDH2, while the lower and higher doses had little effect .The 0.3 g/kg dose of ethanol also increased the ALDH2-positive staining area. These results indicate that the appropriate dose of ethanol promotes ALDH2 activation in the artery vessel wall.
