Description: MiR-34a was potent in inducing senescence of human lung epithelial A549 cells, as indicated by elevated senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity and increased expression of senescence markers p21 and PAI-1 in miR-34a transfected lung epithelial cells. Consistent with this senescent phenotype, miR-34a transfected lung epithelial cells also demonstrated decreased proliferation. The prosenescence activity of miR-34a was also confirmed in human lung epithelial cell line BEAS-2B.
