Whereas wildtype BMSCs expanded significantly over three passages, Bmi1-deficient BMSCs ceased proliferation upon passage 2 and failed to expand in later passages.Bmi1-deficient BMSC cultures exhibited significantly more senescent-associated β-gal (SAβ-gal)+ cells and had increased expression of Ink4a, a marker of senescent cells. |
