Aging Overview

Aging gene

Gene name: SIRT1
Aging type: Prevent
Aging characteristic:
Tissue type: --
Cell name: VSMC
Gene ID: 23411
Category: protein coding
Phenotype: Abdominal aortic aneurysms
Experimental category: HL
PMID: 27650558
Experiment: SA-β-gal activity assay
Description: As expected, the SA-β-gal activity assay also confirmed the antiaging effect of SIRT1 overexpression.

Regulatory relationship

Target gene: P21
Official symbol(s): P21
R-AG-Target gene: Downregulation
Subcategory: Unclear
Target gene experiment: SA-β-gal activity assay//Western blot//Knockdown
Target gene description: These results suggest that SIRT1 inhibited Ang II–induced p21 expression by deacetylation of p53 in AAAs. The increased p21 expression caused by Ang II was significantly greater in the aortas of aged mice than that in young mice. Similarly, increased p21 expression was found in human AAA samples. The results of SA-β-gal staining indicated that p21 knock-down not only blocked Ang II–induced VSMC senescence but also eradicated the promotional effect of SIRT1 knockout.
