Aging Overview

Aging gene

Gene name: SIRT1
Aging type: Prevent
Aging characteristic:
Tissue type: --
Cell name: PAEC
Gene ID: 23411
Category: protein coding
Phenotype: Aging
Experimental category: L
PMID: 20203304
Experiment: SA-β-gal activity assay//Flow cytometry
Description: Results from SA-β-gal staining, as well as flow cytometric analysis, suggested that SIRT1 alleviated cellular senescence.

Regulatory relationship

Regulatory pathway: LKB1-AMPK//AKT
R-AG-Pathway: Activation//Activation
Official symbol(s): STK11-PRKAA1//AKT1
Pathway experiment: Western blot//SA-β-gal activity assay
Pathway description: Importantly, the amount of LKB1 and phosphoAMPK(T172) were significantly lower in SIRT1 transgenic mice. In addition, decreased SIRT1 expression and elevated LKB1/AMPK levels were also observed in the aorta tissues of old mice by comparing to those in young mice.SIRT1 and resveratrol treatment increased Akt(Ser473) phosphorylation in normal cultures,Inhibition of Akt by either Akt inhibitor or kinase-dead Akt could induce senescence only when the experiment was performed under serum containing conditions .These results largely mirrored the effects of Akt inhibition on AMPK activation.
