Description: | The increase in cell proliferation in the kidney and liver of CS-like fish leads to a net expansion in organ size. We also detected an increased number of SA-βgal-positive cells in the brain, heart, liver and bone of CS-like fish. In CS-like fish, but not in wild-type controls, distinct nuclear foci containing γH2AX and pAtm were detected in various tissues. Strikingly, we noticed that the nuclei that stained for γH2AX and pAtm in the brain and heart of CS-like fish are localized in specific regions and throughout the heart ventricle, corresponding to areas enriched with adult proliferating cells (Adolf et al., 2006; Grandel et al., 2006; Poss, 2007). There was a clear inverse correlation between the decrease in BrdU+ cells and the increase of SA-βgal and DDR markers in the brain and heart of CS-like fish . |
